Short description

Win32/Tagak.O is a trojan which tries to download other malware from the Internet.

Installation

The trojan does not create any copies of itself.


The following Registry entries are created:

  • [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\­Software\­Microsoft\­EventSubsystem]
  • [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\­Software\­Microsoft\­%variable%]

The following file is dropped:

  • %temp%\­~%variable%.tmp

A string with variable content is used instead of %variable% .

Information stealing

The trojan collects the following information:

  • operating system version
  • computer name
  • user name
  • list of running processes

The trojan attempts to send gathered information to a remote machine.

Other information

The trojan terminates its execution if it detects that it's running in a specific virtual environment.


The trojan can create and run a new thread with its own program code within the following processes:

  • explorer.exe

The trojan may execute the following commands:

  • CMD /C SYSTEMINFO && SYSTEMINFO && SYSTEMINFO && SYSTEMINFO && SYSTEMINFO && DEL %malwarefilepath%
  • rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL

The trojan contains a list of URLs.


It tries to download a file from the addresses.


The file is stored in the following location:

  • %temp%\­~XX%variable%

A string with variable content is used instead of %variable% .


The file is then executed.
